Hey, did you guys realise it's already time for the Golden Globes?? I DIDN'T EITHER! It's this weekend and we're gonna do a LiveWatch, yay! In the meantime, here's what's up for grabs and who I am totally rooting for.
VS: I'm here too, and most of these movies haven't even been released in Australia, but hey! Let's have a crack anyway!
Here are the nominations!
Best Picture — Drama
Call Me by Your Name
The Post - interested
The Shape of Water - definitely going to watch
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - so good, so very good. A nuanced slice of life that shows the corrosive power of anger
VS: Well seeing as the only one released here is Dunkirk, I'll go with that then. I'm going to be all professional and not post a GIF of Harry Styles . . . yet. Here's Cillian Murphy for your viewing pleasure.
Best Picture — Comedy or Musical
The Disaster Artist - I feel as though I've watched a LOT of Franco this year, I gotta take a pass
Get Out - excellent choice, I will be happy if it wins. It's one of those movies that affects every show you see after. But....COMEDY OR MUSICAL?
The Greatest Showman
I, Tonya - am skeptical of what I've seen of Margot Robbie's performance thus far
Lady Bird - it has Laurie Metcalf, duh, of course it's a contender
VS: I have seen Get Out, awesome. But I can't resist a Franco.

Timothée Chalamet, Call Me by Your Name
Daniel Day Lewis, Phantom Thread
Tom Hanks, The Post
Gary Oldman, The Darkest Hour
Denzel Washington, Roman J. Israel, Esq.
Zero dogs in this fight but Chalamet is getting all the rave reviews
VS: Uhhh, nope. But Gary Oldman always wins in my book. Plus it took eleventy billion hours to turn him into Churchill, gave the man a trophy.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama
Jessica Chastain, Molly’s Game
Sally Hawkins, The Shape of Water - loved her since Tipping the Velvet!
Frances McDormand, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - one of my very favourite actresses but this felt a little samey for her

IT'S TV TIME, ARE YOU READY?? WOOO!!!!!
Best Television Series — Drama
The Crown, Netflix
Stranger Things, Netflix
This Is Us, NBC yeah, so, sorry for not being done those...
I would happily take a Game of Thrones or Handmaid's Tale win! Nothing against This Is Us, I just didn't get those ones exactly all done.
VS: Thrones y'all
Best Television Series — Comedy

Master of None, Netflix
Will & Grace, NBC
Less than zero dogs in this fight
VS - Sooo, Golden Globes, you appear to have forgotten the best show on TV, The Good Place??
Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Big Little Lies, HBO - read the book, will sweep wherever it passes for sure. I found the series difficult to watch, too close to home
Feud: Bette and Joan, FX
The Sinner, USA
Top of the Lake: China Girl, Sundance TV
VS: I'll go with The Sinner, if only for Bill Pullman and his fingernails. But hey, Gwendoline Christie was in Top of the Lake, let's just look at her and sigh for a bit.

Jason Bateman, Ozark
Sterling K. Brown, This is Us - I quite like his work!
Freddie Highmore, The Good Doctor
Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul

Caitriona Balfe, Outlander
Claire Foy, The Crown
Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Deuce - I would be ecstatic if she or Elisabeth Moss took it, fantastic work this season

Laura Dern, Big Little Lies
Ann Dowd, Handmaid’s Tale
Chrissy Metz, This is Us
Michelle Pfeiffer, Wizard of Lies
Shailene Woodley, Big Little Lies
Now this is tough because they're ALL fab, but I will go with Laura Dern because they're determined to make it her year. I'm not against that concept, but I am always leery of predetermined outcomes. You know, like when Olive Kitteridge swept every category ever.
VS: I'll go with Ann Dowd who was the best thing about The Leftovers which she is totally not nominated for.
So that's it!! Who are you rooting for? Are you watching? ARE YOU WATCHING WITH US?? Y NOT??
VS: Man, I was totally not helpful. Think I just voted for everything not nommed. Ah well, fingers crossed for some drunken shenanigans and terrible musical performances on the night!
Have a good week, catch you on the flipside!
